Recommended Hikes, tested by Cub Scouts in Pack 1530
Scott's Run in McLean. Local hike with stream crossings with stepping stones, small waterfall, short drive from Oakton.
Dark Hollow Falls in Shenandoah National Park (SNP). 1.4 miles round trip; very steep; 70' waterfall
Rose River Falls loop in SNP. 4-mile circuit from Fishers Gap. Shady trail with stream, cascades, waterfalls
Little Devils Stairs in SNP. 2-mile hike up a gorge along Keyser Run with stream crossings & rock scrambling. Down fire road
Old Rag in SNP. 8-miles and 2150 ft elevation gain, rock scrambling, spectacular vistas, but very very crowded
Cedar Run/White Oak Canyon in SNP. 8-miles and 2450 ft elevation gain. Strenuous circuit hike with falls, cascades, pools.
Stony Man in SNP. 3.7-miles & 860 ft elevation gain, with some of the best vistas in SNP
Hawksbill, Appalachian Trail & Salamander Trail. 3-mile circuit hike with beautiful vistas & view from highest point in SNP
Billy Goat at Great Falls. Hikes A, B & C are 7.8 miles. Strenuous hike with rock scrambling & fantastic views of Potomac.
Cross County Trail. Over 40 miles of trails, excellent for hiking & off-road biking. Only for moderate to skilled bikers.

W&OD Trail. 45 miles of paved trail from Shirlington near I-395 to Purcellville in Loudoun County
C&O Canal Trail. 184 miles from Georgetown to Cumberland including locks, lock houses, Mather Gorge, aqueducts
Mt Vernon Trail. 18-mile paved multi-use trail from Mount Vernon Estate through Alexandria to Teddy Roosevelt Island
