Cub Scout Camps

Cub Scout Day Camp

Cub Scout Day Camp is designed to give younger scouts (generally Tigers and Wolves) the opportunity to experience a great Scouting program over the course of five days of daytime-only activity.

Each year, the Day Camp program is built around a different theme (pioneers, space exploration, superheroes, etc.), and the scouts move between stations during the day, including activities such as archery, nature, handicraft, bb target shooting, swimming, sports, etc.

The scouts come home exhausted yet full of memories of their days at camp with their friends.

The camp is held during a week in late June or July.

Cub World

The program starts on a Thursday late afternoon and runs through Sunday morning, and is held at Scout Camp Snyder in Haymarket, Virginia, an easy 20-25 minute drive from Oakton.

Each year, the Camp program is built around a different theme (pioneers, space exploration, superheroes, etc.), and the scouts move between stations during the day, including activities such as archery, nature, handicraft, bb target shooting, swimming, sports, etc.

The highlight of both Thursday and Saturday nights are the huge, festive campfires.  Thursday the show is put on by the camp staff, and Saturday it is the scouts’ turn to lead the campfire in song and skits.

All meals are prepared by the Camp Snyder foodservice staff and served in the air-conditioned dining hall.

The camp is held Thursday-Sunday in late June or July.

Goshen

Goshen is designed to give older Cub Scouts (Bears and Webelos) the opportunity to experience a great Scouting program over the course of a full week of outdoor camping in an adventurous – but safe – location.

The program starts on a Sunday and runs through the next Saturday morning, and is held at Goshen Scout Reservation in Goshen, Virginia, about a three-hour drive from Oakton.

Camp Ross and Camp PMI are Webelos Scout resident camps located on 450 acre Lake Merriweather. Thomas Jefferson once called this area the "Garden of Eden of the United States."  Youth sleep in two person tents with cots. Camp is accredited annually by the BSA and meets State of Virginia requirements.

Each day, the scouts are served three great meals prepared for them in the camp dining hall.  Camp staff leads every meal in songs and cheers (though the Pack can bring their own song to any meal during the week).

The days are filled with various program activities throughout the camp, including archery, scoutcraft, nature, handicraft, bb target shooting, swimming, sports, boating and canoeing (including one-man funoes!), and more.  A day trip to lookout rock or down to the “old swimming hole” are great diversions during the week, as are visits to one of the Boy Scout camps surrounding the lake.

Two of the highlights of the week are the opening and closing night huge, dual-fire campfires on the shore of Lake Merriweather.  The opening show is put on by the camp staff, and the closing night is the scouts’ turn to lead the campfire in song and skits.

The camp is held Sunday-Saturday one week in July.
